In order to create a web page on Geocities, you need to sign up with a Yahoo account. Click on the Sign Up button located on the left hand side of the page. On the login page, you can either sign up with your existing Yahoo account or create a new one.

1. Geocities Control Panel – for easy navigation through your Geocities account use the following tabs:
   1. Home – source of general site information.
   2. Create & Update – tools for site building, file management, editing, etc.
   3. Manage – review your site status, create and edit web pages, upload files, etc.
   4. Promote – marketing and promotional tools for bringing traffic to your site.
   5. Help and Index Tabs – for assistance finding or using a feature.

3. Site Status – provides you with info about your Data Transfer Usage and Disk Space Usage.
   1. Data Transfer Usage – When a visitor types your web address into a browser, the visitor´s computer connects to the Internet and asks to see your site. All your text, pictures, and files are then transferred to display your site. This flow of information is called data transfer.
   2. Disk Space Usage – Disk space is the space used to store all of your web site’s content, such as text, pictures, videos, and other files.
4. Site Activity – This tool shows you how many people have visited your web site.
5. Geocities Community – you can search for other Geocities members´ web sites and exchange ideas with other Geocities members.
6. View My Site – this link will enable you to check out your site and view the progress you make as you build it.

To build your own webpage, go to the Getting Started area and click on Create a Web Site. You will be asked to select the tool you wish to work with in order to build your own webpage. You have several options to build your webpage. You may use either the Yahoo! Page Builder or the Yahoo! Page Wizards. In this tutorial, we will focus on Yahoo! Page Wizards.

The Yahoo! Page Wizard is a quick and easy way for you to build your own web page in just a few simple steps. Please note that Yahoo! PageWizards is compatible only with Windows operating systems. The minimum system requirements for PageWizards are:

• Windows 98, ME, XP, NT, or 2000
• 133MHz processor
• 32MB memory
• 28.8KB modem
• 3.0 browser with Java enabled

Once your selection has been made, Yahoo! PageWizards will take you through the step by step process of adding images and text according to your preferences. Once you have made a selection on the PageWizard, just hit the Next button to proceed.

Although the templates that are offered by the PageWizard are different, they have a few similar sections:

1. Page Title and Text – Please note that there is a limit to the amount of text you can enter in the text box. If you reach this limit, you will not be able to enter more text. If you cut and paste text that is over this limit, it will be cut off. You should preview the page you are creating in order to ensure that all the text you entered is visible.
2. Pick your Picture – You have several options for uploading images. You may either use a picture that you have already uploaded to your File Manager (the file manager will be discussed later), upload a new picture, use the template’s default image or not use a picture at all. If you choose to upload a new image, click on the Upload New Image button. In the new window that comes up, click Browse and choose your image (in either Gif or Jpg format).
3. Enter your Favorite Links – add your referral link. This will ensure that you receive a 55% commission on Video Chat with the traffic you bring to ImLive.
4. Enter your Information – you can include your personal info on your web page.
5. Name your Page – choose a name for your page. This name will be part of your page´s URL.

If you don´t want to have one of the sections appear on your web page, just leave it blank.

Once you have finished completing the section, you will reach a confirmation page. Click Done to get your page published.

On your Geocities Control Panel, you will see the tab Manage. Click on it to get to your File Manager.

This tool enables you to upload and organize files, divide into folders, create, edit and delete web pages.

You will also be able to monitor your Disk Space Usage and see how many files you can still create.

Yahoo! offers you tools to promote your web page using their directories. Check out the information located in the Promote tab on your Geocities Control Panel.

You should be aware that Yahoo! Geocities does not allow pornography or nudity on the sites. Posting this kind of material will result in the removal of your page from the Geocities directory.

We recommend that you avoid being explicit on your pages and avoid posting images that contain nudity. Create web pages that are tempting but not sexually explicit.
