Yahoo! Geocities is a website which offers you simple tools and templates to build your own web page for free. It is very similar to Angelfire (discussed in Tutorial #3) but you might find the interface easier to use and navigate.

Because of Yahoo! Geocities rules and regulations, you will not be able to host content that is pornographic or sexually explicit. However, don´t let this stop you from taking advantage of this method to increase your traffic and earn you 55% commissions.

  3. Familiarize Yourself with Your Surroundings
    1. Geocities Control Panel – for easy navigation through your Geocities account use the following tabs:
      1. Home – source of general site information.
      2. Create & Update – tools for site building, file management, editing, etc.
      3. Manage – review your site status, create and edit web pages, upload files, etc.
      4. Promote – marketing and promotional tools for bringing traffic to your site.
      5. Help and Index Tabs – for assistance finding or using a feature.

      1. Data Transfer Usage – When a visitor types your web address into a browser, the visitor´s computer connects to the Internet and asks to see your site. All your text, pictures, and files are then transferred to display your site. This flow of information is called data transfer.
      2. Disk Space Usage – Disk space is the space used to store all of your web site’s content, such as text, pictures, videos, and other files.
    4. Site Activity – This tool shows you how many people have visited your web site.
    5. Geocities Community – you can search for other Geocities members´ web sites and exchange ideas with other Geocities members.
    6. View My Site – this link will enable you to check out your site and view the progress you make as you build it.

  7. The Yahoo! Page Wizard is a quick and easy way for you to build your own web page in just a few simple steps. Please note that Yahoo! PageWizards is compatible only with Windows operating systems. The minimum system requirements for PageWizards are:

    • Windows 98, ME, XP, NT, or 2000

    1. Page Title and Text – Please note that there is a limit to the amount of text you can enter in the text box. If you reach this limit, you will not be able to enter more text. If you cut and paste text that is over this limit, it will be cut off. You should preview the page you are creating in order to ensure that all the text you entered is visible.
    2. Pick your Picture – You have several options for uploading images. You may either use a picture that you have already uploaded to your File Manager (the file manager will be discussed later), upload a new picture, use the template’s default image or not use a picture at all. If you choose to upload a new image, click on the Upload New Image button. In the new window that comes up, click Browse and choose your image (in either Gif or Jpg format).
    3. Enter your Favorite Links – add your referral link. This will ensure that you receive a 55% commission on Video Chat with the traffic you bring to ImLive.
    4. Enter your Information – you can include your personal info on your web page.
    5. Name your Page – choose a name for your page. This name will be part of your page´s URL.

    If you don´t want to have one of the sections appear on your web page, just leave it blank.

    Once you have finished completing the section, you will reach a confirmation page. Click Done to get your page published.
